The Parent Tot Program is a unique class for both the child and their parents. A child must be two years old on or before September 1st of the year they attend to participate. Each class has a maximum size of 12 students with 1 teacher and 2 assistants in the classroom. This class meets once a week for an hour and a half. The goal of the program is to provide a first school experience which introduces the child to the routine and structure of a typical preschool day. It also allows the child to confidently separate from their parent and practice independence.
The parent and child are together in the classroom for the first 2 class times where they are introduced to the teachers and activities of preschool. After this period of adjustment, the children will practice their new found independence and be in the classroom with the teachers while the parents will be in another room participating in a parent discussion group. During class the children will do a craft, explore toys and puzzles, enjoy a snack together, engage in fine and gross motor activities and interact with teachers and other children. Parents will get to spend time with other parents who have children the same age and discuss various parenting topics. Our time together ends with parents joining their child for “circle time” which includes a story, finger plays, songs, counting and fun!
