The Parent Tot Program is a unique class for both the child and a parent. A child must be two years old on or before September 1st of the year they intend to participate. Each class has a maximum size of 12 students with 2 teachers and 2 assistants. This class meets once a week for an hour and a half. The goal of the program is to provide a first school experience which introduces the child to age appropriate routines and structure of a typical preschool day. It also allows the child to confidently separate from their parent and practice independence.
During the first 2 class times, families are introduced to the teachers and activities of preschool. After this period of adjustment, the children will practice their new found independence and be in the classroom with the teachers while parents are in another room participating in a discussion group. During class time the children will do a craft, explore toys and puzzles, enjoy a snack together, engage in fine and gross motor activities and interact with teachers and other children. Our parents will get to spend time in another room discussing childrearing and family topics. Our time together ends by joining the children for “circle time” which includes a story, finger plays, songs, counting and fun!
